2015 Theme – Imagine
Step through the looking glass one more time into your self created fantasy. You find you have the power, creativity, and verve to make great things happen in a world entirely of your making. Thoughts swirl like clouds torn asunder by tornados as your cast yourself forward into BEing. What was it that you wished you saw or did in your mind's eye?
Where did you go? When in the hazy mists of time was your imagination allowed to run wild through the night? How will your imagination come to BE?

Artisan Mentor:Starting this fall, we begin the mentor program. Part of the garden is also creating a sculpture garden. Each participating class will be assigned an artisan mentor (You) who will guide the students in working collaboratively on a large scale sculptural piece make out of found or recycled materials in the style of the artisan. They will have all semester to work on the piece. At the end of the school year, we will host an art gala and the pieces will be auctioned off. 100% of the proceeds from the sale will go back into the schools arts programming; thus creating the first ever fully self sustaining arts program. Dear Contributor and/or Project Partner:
Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and consider this exciting opportunity to be part of a great and impactful project! We are a group of 21 volunteer leaders working in conjunction with Burners Without Borders, a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization, and George Washington Carver Middle School in South Central Los Angeles. We are committed to improving the lives of the children and community by building a sustainable garden with art sculptures and outdoor classroom for urban public school students at George Washington Carver Middle School.
At the George Washington Carver Garden, students will participate in all aspects of growing, harvesting, and preparing nutritious seasonal produce. Classroom teachers and educators integrate food systems and conceps into the core curriculum. Students will also have the opportunity to make art sculptures from recycled materials. It is our intention that students' hands-on experiences in the garden will foster a deeper appreciation of how the natural world sustains us and promotes the environmental and social well-being of our school and local community. The George Washington Carver Garden will become an outdoor learning space for students to learn about natural science, agriculture and art in a collaborative environment. The Carver Garden Alliance's goal is to build this garden with the help of the children, parents, teachers, and local community and trade volunteers.
This environment will provide at-risk youth many important and necessary skills and teach them how to become productive and contributing members of society. Through the recycling aspect of this project, students will create beautiful art forms from common community discards. This project's message will show and teach students that anything is possible – even rubbish can be made into art! As students learn how to grow and cultivate the garden, they will build community, connection and love for themselves, the natural world, and their community. This project is also intended to be used as a model to assist other schools and organizations to create similar urban, educational programs nationwide.
How can you help?
Your tax-deductible contribution will create the necessary funds needed to pay for the supplies, building materials such as fencing, stones, plants etc, and long term maintenance of the garden. Although volunteers will be primarily used to launch this project, there are certain aspects of the project that require hired, and skilled labor. At the end of the construction project, Burners Without Borders 501(c)3 will place all remaining donations in an endowment fund for the continued growth and success of the garden and teaching center. We are committed to raising $100,000.00 for this project by June 17, 2011. We need your support to achieve this goal!
Please make all checks/Money Orders out to "Burners Without Borders". In the memo section of the check, please write Carver Garden, and the name of the person whom approached you for your contribution opportunity.
Please mail it to Burners Without Borders, 3593 Griffin Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90031.
You can also donate online at http://www.laburningman.com/carver-garden.html
Thank you in advance for your time and Generosity.
Yours Truly,
Carver Garden Alliance
